Mr Krishan Kumar Jalan, former IAS Officer, Haryana cadre delivered an impactful talk on “Micro and Small Enterprises: Role of Government and Opportunities Available” in the NU Auditorium on March 19 2024 at 11:30 am. The event was attended by students and faculty in large numbers. The Question & Answer session at the end saw a number of interesting questions raised by both students and faculty which were answered effectively and in an interesting manner by the speaker.
About the invited speaker, Mr Krishan Kumar Jalan
Krishan Kumar Jalan is an IAS officer (Retired) from Haryana Cadre, 1982 batch. He retired as Secretary, Government of India in June 2017. During his career span of 35 years in Indian Administrative Service, he held important assignments such as those of Central Provident Fund Commissioner, Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), the biggest Social Security organization in the world; Additional Chief Secretary/Administrative Secretary of departments such as Public Works, Irrigation, Urban Local Bodies and Town & Country Planning in the State Government of Haryana.
He also worked as Director and Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles from 1999-2015. He has unique experience of working as Deputy commissioner/District Magistrate of five districts namely Bhiwani, Faridabad, Karnal, Sonepat and Rewari.
Mr Jalan is an M.Phil. in Mathematics and Public Administration. He is also a Master of Social Sciences in Development Administration from the University of Birmingham. Mr Jalan has travelled extensively within and outside India (to more than 30 countries). Mr Jalan started his career as a lecturer in a college as a teacher of Mathematics and he continues his passion by teaching public administration in Haryana Institute of Public Administration and other such institutes. He also mentors civil service aspirants.
Mr Jalan is credited with many innovations even in the Government set up. He was first to introduce e tendering in public works. He also got many awards in his lifetime such as E Governance Gold Award by Government of India, Bhim Award for promotion of sports, NDTV Award for e governance in EPFO etc.
