When aspirants think of higher learning institutions, it’s only natural to focus on comfort for an engaging learning experience. But NIIT University (NU) alumnus Deepti Singh espouses the virtues of working out of your comfort zone to achieve your true potential. The BTech Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), Class of 2019 student says, “NU enabled me to work out of my comfort zone and those are the skills that I carry with me wherever I go.” She is certainly going places, from her MBA in France to now working as Information Security Engineer in Sweden. Here’s how she made her global mark.
As she honed her domain skills during her programme, Deepti was also an active participant of the dance club and theatre club at NU. She was elected for the position of House Captain and Residential Head on campus. “Participating in numerous academic and extracurricular activities strengthened my identity as an individual. It taught me how to be adaptable and resilient, which are crucial life skills,” she asserts. During her stint at the university, she also participated in several innovative projects that enhanced her learning experience.
According to Deepti, one such opportunity was to conduct further research on a cybersecurity project. It led to her publishing a research paper, which she presented at ICOIN 2020 in Barcelona. Through the campus and practical learning experiences, she was transformed as an industry-ready professional. And in her last semester, her talent caught the eye of one of the Big Fours. “I was chosen for EY’s department of Technology Consulting, through campus placement. It was a huge learning experience,” she states.
Deepti worked with the industry giant for over two years, where she felt mentored and empowered in an environment that fostered her client-facing skills. “My experience at EY made me realize the importance of navigating and thriving in a fast-paced environment by acquiring new skills and competencies. I had the opportunity to work with various client organisations, which enabled me to gain diverse knowledge,” she speaks of her experience. But she was always keen on adding management skills to her technical knowledge, which is why she opted for her MBA.
Deepti moved to France to pursue her Master’s in Business Consulting and Digital Transformation at SKEMA Business School. She is grateful to her mentors at NU who offered her the support in getting necessary assistance whenever she needed it. “I am currently working with Klarna as an Information Security Engineer based in Stockholm, Sweden. NU has laid the platform for me and made me an independent learner, who can adapt to any situation, which has held me in good stead,” she concludes strongly.
