NU Receives Swachhata Award 2018 from HRD Union Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar for Clean Campus

NIIT University ranked 6th in the Swachhata Ranking Awards 2018 for Higher Educational Institutions given by Government of India. The Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Shri Prakash Javadekar conferred Swachhata Ranking Awards 2018 for Higher Educational Institutions during a glittering event in New Delhi on October 1st 2018. Of the best 51 higher educational institutions selected for Swachhata Ranking Awards in 8 different categories, NU stood 6th in the Technical Institutions/Universities (Residential) category.

The Swachhata Ranking Awards are part of Government of India’s commitment to creating a clean and healthy country. The awards are aligned to the Swatchh Bharat Abhiyan Mission of Government of India.

Of the 6029 institutions that competed for the Swachhata Awards in 2018, 205 institutions were shortlisted based on a pre-defined cut-off by the ministry. All shortlisted institutions were inspected by AICTE & UGC and the best 51 institutions were selected in the following eight categories:

  • Universities (Residential)
  • Universities (Non-Residential)
  • Colleges (Residential)
  • Colleges (Non-Residential)
  • Technical Institutions/Universities (Residential)
  • Technical Colleges (Residential)
  • Technical Colleges (Non-Residential)
  • Government Universities
Moving forward, the HRD Ministry is planning to introduce careers in Waste & Environment Management from this year onwards thus adopting a job-oriented approach to cleanliness. An elective course and a PG Diploma in Waste Management including internship is planning to be offered by the Ministry.
