International Collaboration between the Victoria University of Wellington and NIIT University

NIIT University and the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand collaborate to offer the best of both worlds in terms of academic and research experience to undergraduate students. In the initial phase, agreed upon on February 18, 2025, a Bachelor’s programme in Biotechnology is being offered. The details are as given below.   • Name and Type of Programme at VUW: Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology
  • For Whom: B Tech Biotechnology students of NIIT University will be able to enrol in the Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology Programme of VUW
  • Duration: 3 Years in total (1.5 years at NIIT University + 1.5 Years at Victoria University of Wellington)
  • Pre-Qualification: To successfully transfer to the Victoria University of Wellington, the student should complete the first three semesters of B Tech Biotechnology at NU with a minimum B Grade in jointly identified courses and posess the necessary English requirement.
  • Course Fee: INR 32 Lacs for the full 1.5 Years
  • Additional Fee: INR 55,000 (For visa-related expenses)
  • Scholarships: Up to INR 5.00 Lacs. (An exclusive scholarship of 5% on first tuition fee for NIIT University students)
  • Living cost: As applicable during the year of joining
  • Work Entitlements/Earnings: The student is allowed to work 20 hours per week during his/her studies and 40 hours per week in his/her holidays. The minimum wage rate is NZD 23.15 per hour. On completion of the bachelor’s degree in New Zealand, they will be entitled to a 1.5-year post-study work visa.
  • Earning potential: INR 15 Lacs (per year as part-time)
  • Average salary on graduation: The chances of getting a job as a biotechnologist are good due to the increasing demand for their services. Biotechnologists usually earn $48K-$75K per year, with maximum graduates earning approximately NZD 72,000 as per the data from Economic Research Institute, 2024

FAQs

Ideally, we would like to identify the students post-completion of their first semester. The latest should be by the end of 2nd Semester. Earlier the better.

The student will not gain a bachelor’s degree from VUW. NU is free to credit this to their programme. However, it can lead to visa issues in the future.

Yes, the student can enrol for a Master degree. They can study a range of programmes across Climate Change, Applied Sciences or even Management. The taught programs will be for 1 year. Taught + Research programs will be for 1.5 – 2 years. The student can also study at a different university in NZ for a master’s degree.

The medical insurance is about NZD 700 – 800 and it is added to the fee.
