NU participates in Run for Unity on Unity Day 2022

NIIT University conducted several activities on October 31st as part of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary celebrations. 31st October is celebrated as ‘Unity Day’ to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, known for his supreme patriotism, iron will, and courage of conviction. His vital role in the Indian freedom struggle and unification of States earned him the title of ‘Iron Man of India’.
The following events were organized on 31st October 2022 at NU campus.
- QUIZ on the Iron man for all the students and the staff in the morning.
- RUN FOR UNITY at 5 PM from reception to NU gate and back with cash prizes for Men and Women categories.
- DELIBERATIONS by the faculty on the Iron Man and his contribution in the MR 301 at 5:30 pm in the evening.
Unity, as a theme, forms part of the “Paanch Pran’, as declared by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, on Independence Day, 2022. There was a week-long celebration from 25th to 31st October 2022 under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav with the active participation of all to honor the patriotism of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and to reinforce his teachings and values.
The Government of India envisaged to organize 75,000 Unity Runs across India, including 100 runs per district. A microsite with a web interface has been developed where individuals participating in the Unity Run are encouraged to upload their photos.
From NIIT University itself, more than 80 students participated. To motivate students, faculty too ran along with them. The run was about 1.5km for both genders to preserve unity among them. NU President Prof Rajesh Khanna took the initiative for Run for Unity where he encouraged students, faculty and staff members to participate. The run started from the Academic Block reception area to the main gate and back.
Amongst the boys, Lovdeep stood first while Jigme Choden came first in the girls category. The Run for Unity was dominated by first years with five out of six winners coming from the freshman year. The event was organized by Chirag Chawla, Cultural Captain of NIIT University. We look forward more such fun-loving and inspiring unity events in coming years.
